Hi all.
After some clarification on supercharger belts and the tightness of them.
I have been told two things, one that the belt should be as tight as
possible to avoid belt slippage etc, and two that the belt should not be
overtightened as it puts undue pressure on the front crank bearing? which
has a history of failing in early NA engines (apparently this was fixed in
later engines with a change to a larger crankshaft bearing???)
If anyone can clarify for me I would be very appreciative. I'm no
mechanic so not sure if the above parts are described correctly.
Duncan

hi Duncan,
Have you had a sniff around the sscor site/mailing list... and biggulp.net?
Sounds about right, although I've no first hand experience.

thanks Jeff, useful sites. Can't wait to get 362hp at the wheels as per
the Big Gulp car, but right now I just want it to run better.

belt tension esp. superchargers
I've never actually adjusted the tension myself on my belts but I can
tell you that if you belt is slipping you will get very noticeable belt
dusting on the underside of your bonnet.

Do NOT overtighten the belt, it will break. Adjust to approx 9mm flex in the
middle of the longest run. If you have excessive dusting, it's too loose.
