there's a really good book going on trademe, it was recommended by
bwob (Bob Hall) - if I hadn't ordered it from overseas already I'd
snap it up!

It's meant to be a 2 book boxed set, but might only be 1 here...

question for e-mail chat room

Hi

Only owning a MX5 since last xmas we have had some great times and lots of
fun.

But I am always looking for ways to improve things, my main task at the
moment is to cut down the amount of back draught on our backs, so I have
made a 3mm thick polycarbonate wind shield behind the seats which wraps
round to meet up with the side windows and it works very well but would like
to improve it, I have made it just lower than the roll bars but I believe
that it is too high, the ones on the later model cars are very low just
maybe 100mm high.

My question is has anyone done any wind flow measurements on where about the
wind reverses direction when it reaches behind the seat, I have thought I
might put up a rod with ribbons tied up its length behind the seat and see
where they change direction and so get the optimum height for the screen,
has any one done this, and what was the result?I realise that it will never
be perfect but!!! it would be nice to try.

I've got a later model car (2000). The factory wind blocker doesn't stop all
the wind, you still get a lot of turbulence around the back of the neck and
head, but it does significantly reduce turbulent air lower in the cockpit and
that helps keep you warmer when top down in cold weather. Also, when driving
top down in the rain I haven't ever noticed the back of my head getting wet,
in spite of the turbulence.

Ours is 700 mill long by 300 mill high, hopefully the link below will
show it,

http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/709127/2

We find it great, still get abit of wind so not completely isolated from
the outside, otherwise whats the point? but no cold draughts, just screwed
with 3 selftappers onto our homemade cabin brace.

question for e-mail chat room

Post by Michael & Kate Cooper » Mon Dec 06, 2004 12:21 pm

Hi there

Just a bit of foresight for those who will be having "auto-replies" form their
e-mail addresses over the Christmas period. Is there some way they can be
programmed to not reply to list e-mails? Maybe a short-term unsubscribe?

With the increase of all this new technology I can just see everyone's
in-box's getting clogged up with auto-replies to auto-replies.. etc...

Thanks

Kate
