where to start
where to start
Hi all from a new member in Palmerston North.
Ive been working on entering the blue machine in some track events but am
unsure where to start. The Whittakers classic on the weekend didn't seem to
cater for MX5's (despite the MX5 being a classic) and I got no reply from
Manfield. None of the other tracks seem to reply either, though they may only
have part time admin. who clear emails once a week.
I'm happy to add the required safety gear, seats, belts etc and want to work
the car towards next years Targa, even if I just follow the faster cars
around until they crash out.
I've also contacted the local MX5 group through Chrissy and will see what that
brings.
Regards
Warwick

Hi Warwick
I would suggest that you join up with a local car club. This should give
you notice of any clubmans meetings to the held at Manfield.
Taupo CC have a winter series which is good for people who want to have
a bit of fun but don't want to enter a national series. Next year it
runs from June to September, 1 meeting a month. They have dual sprints
on the Saturday and races on the Sunday. This would be good practice for
the Targa.
Cheers
Keith

yay, another MX5er who wants to race.
I've got my car all set up for track and can discuss stuff if you email me
off forum. dscotland@repco.co.nz
First thing to do is join a car club. The Palmy car club was pretty good
when I was down there years ago, anyone else on the list a member?? The
club newsletters etc will get you access to all sorts of events. Although
mx5's are classic in our books, they are too modern and don't fit the
criteria for some events eg Whittakers. But there are lots of other
things eg club sprints, hillclimbs, motorkhanas etc.

Another good series - especially for those new to motorsport is the Surgery
Intermarque Sprint series. Unfortunately the last meeting for the year is
coming up soon (Dec 5th) You need to be a member of a car club and have the
basic motorsport licence to participate also your car will need the usual
basics required for going on the track. There are a couple of MX5s doing this
series at present. If you are a Palmy person pop down on the 5th for a look
anyway...
