I have just recently replaced my old ignition leads with a set purchased from
Ross at mx5mart. Also replaced the old plugs with the Iridium ones. A really
noticeable difference to the general running and performance, smoother idling
and quicker acceleration. Would be interested to hear other members comments

Replaced my leads also with Ross's after reading on a UK web site that a
hesitation from idle on was almost always caused by the leads braking down
and the new leads certainly alleviated it.
Interested in comments on the plugs though.

Yep - I put a set of repacement leads on and the car definately ran
'sharper' - seemed crisper - my partner noticed independently of prompting
which is always the acid test as to whether it is in my head...
I did put in a set of NGK extended reach plugs at the same time so I guess
it is difficult to be objective..
On a different note: Dead batteries - DONT GIVE UP on it! I got back from a
month overseas and my alarm had drained it totally, not even a glimmer of a
dash light, flat. Jump started it, drove for an hour, let it idle for 2 or 3
hours - turned it off and then went to start it and not even a flicker...
All conventional battery wisdom says that a 10 year old battery that wont
take ANY charge over such a period is toast. Priced up a new one, got
depressed, bought the lowest output trickle charger I could from the
warehouse for about $25 - put it on that for 2 days - put the battery back
on the car and it J U S T started. Not holding out much hope at this point I
drove the car always mindfull that it might not start after I turned it off
- but over time the battery "recovered" - took a week or so of driving - but
is now up to full strength - holds plenty of charge over time and is as good
as new - has been for months. So dont give up - batteries that seem beyond
saving can be nursed back to full health... (something to do with absorbtion
glass mat batteries only being able to accept very low currents - look on
the net for more info)
Hope this helps someone...

NGK Ignition Leads & Iridium Spark Plugs
After I had fit a new set of them, I recall reading recently that the irridium
plugs could not make any difference in the MX5 for a technical reason that
eludes me at the moment. Can anyone clarify this?

MX5s use a wasted spark ignition so that the spark travels in reverse on
one of the plugs. Iridium plugs are usly just on the tip, unless you get
the pricier dual-iridium/platinum version.
