Soft top replacement

Post by Phil Lefevre » Fri Oct 29, 2004 4:23 pm

I need to replace the soft top on a '94 that I just bought.
A couple of questions:
1. Any ideas on what brand? ie Robbins, Mazda, EZ-on, other?
2. Where to best get it? NZ, UK, USA?
3. I've heard varing reports on installation. So DIY or installer?
4. Best colour for a white MX5. I'm thinking tan but open to suggestions.
Any other info you have that might be helpful, please feel
free to let me know.
Thanks
Phil

Strictly my opinion:

If in Auckland don't DIY, use Al's Upholstery in Glenfield. You will be
in and out in no time.

Let Al get it for you. It will be faster
I'd pick a dark blue for a white car, and certainly not tan (I have tan
on my BRG 91)

Regards
Bill

hi phil.
you can't beat als.
i've just (in the last 3 months) got the new glass window roof that you don't
have to unzip.
it's absolutely brilliant.
i absolutely love it and couldn't go back to plastic that goes opaque in a year
and the damn zip palaver.
talk to al for a price - you won't be sorry.

Hey Bill, I have a crapped out black soft top at the mo and was looking at
replacing with a tan one on my BRG - you seem to imply that youre not that
impressed with tan???

As an old conservative I say stay with black! I have a BRG with a black roof
and will stay with black when I eventually replace it. I think they look
much better than the tan roofs do. I would like a glass window though! My
plastic one is somewhat opaque but as it spends most of its life with the
roof down I will put up with it until the roof finally starts leaking.
What sort of price are you Aucklanders, and others, paying for replacements
anyway?
Grant.

My roof is fine but I like the idea of fitting a glass window. How much
does that cost?

not sure if they can retro-fit them - but he'll be able to tell you.
