Has anyone else seen the Aussie Supercar Bullet?
check out the website www.bulletcars.com
Can you say MX5? Pre 2000 anyway, they don't admit to anything but we are
just a little bit curious about the similarities.

For the uninitiated, these are highly modified MX5 bodies, (but probably not
much else), sitting on a massive chassis and fitted with either a normally
aspirated or blown Quad cam Lexus 4 litre V8.

I have seen a few photos and read a bit about them, and while they are not
MX5s, they seem to be very well put together. What Mr Mazda thinks of them,
who knows!

The thing looks like a bit of a beast. It would be interesting to drive, to
say the least.

Considering that you could buy the genuine convertible Lexus item, brand
new, in Australia for similar money, I really can't see the point
myself. It
has a "kit car" ambience to it and I wonder how much of your $107,000 you
would ever get back.

Having driven the genuine Lexus, I would back a genuine MX5 round corners
and for sheer driving pleasure any day. They understeer like pigs, have an
unpleasant ride which combines bounciness with the ability to feel every
bump in the road and are very difficult to place with precision. Save your
$105,000!

MX5 + Lexus V8. Put them together and this is what you get:

I've saw a couple of them at the Brisbane Motorshow and I have to say I
was very impressed. Very little is actually from an MX5, just the
windscreen, doors, roof and interior.

Have a look at this photo I took of the chassis and you'll see what I
mean.

I'd rather have one of these than a Lexus, Porsche or BMW Z4.

Cheers

The 1999 Bullet Roadster, from my reseach I ascertained the following;

It has an engineered full box section chassis that uses a Mazda RX7 Turbo
suspension, steering and driveline components.

Much work has gone into designing the chassis to maintain the RX7s steering
and suspension geometry. The finish onthe chassis and driveline can only be
described as show quality, with the chassis being hand finished and coloured
coded to the body work.

The front track is now RX7 Turbo while the rear is wider as well. The
wheelbase has been extended (75mm between the firewall and front axle) and
combined with the larger footprint this vastly improves roadholding.

To clear the new chassis, the front body is completely re-manufactured.
Its a one piece, lift off fibreglass unit based on the orginal MX5 but
longer and wider. It uses Chrysler Neon headlights and VT Commodore
sidemarkers for the indicators.

The engine is a stock 1UZ-FE Lexus V8, with Microtech MT8 Management and
Hand Programmer. With the free flowing extractors and handbuilt staibless
steel twin 3 inch exhaust, it puts out around 220 kw or 300 hp. It has a
weight of 1140 kg, plus driver.

The gearbox is a 5 speed Toyota Supra, driving a custom 3inch tailshaft to
an RX7 Turbo Diff with 3.08 ratio.

But I guess I would rather have Ford Mustang SVO 5.0 litre V8 shoehorned
into the MX5 with a Holley 600 cfm carb & Cobra T-5 5 speed transmission.
