Gazza has done some work on making a cowl induction CAI (fabricated
himself), I thought it was pretty impressive. Hopefully he won't mind
me sharing the pics...

Gazza's cold air/ cowl inducted intake - photos
No worries there zorruno,
And thanks for the feedback (embarrassed). I inherited a lathe from my father
(a tool maker) as he passed away last year, I just finished night school on
how to use it and I wanted to make something I felt my dad would have been
proud of and the air intake was all I could think of to make. Not hard at all,
just a lot of time as the aluminium adaptor part (between the blue pod filter
and the aluminium tube) had to be made form a piece of 110mm solid bar, it
took hours to remove all the centre and made a whole clean sack of swarf. The
rest was not so hard as I based my idea on David M's intake system. And Glenns
shiny fuel cap gave me the inspiration to polish the aluminium. Getting the
whole thing aligned and bracketed was the trickiest part (it's amazing how
many times you can bend a simple bracket the wrong way).
The result... my girlfriend's comments sum it all up..."OOH Gary, it's too
noisy"... Translated into man think "Ohhh Brilliant that sounds great..." I
must admit I was a little shocked as to how loud the induction sound is, but
only during acceleration (that's the 90% driving time between the 10%
braking). I honestly can't be sure if it really goes any faster but the sound
sure makes it seem faster
The cost for anyone keen, pod filter and adaptor about $70-$80, aluminium $25,
clips and misc fittings about $25. I had the blue silicon hose already. So all
up maybe $130 plus a fair bit of time. Way cheaper than the kit and much more
fun.
Cheers
