1990 NA 1.6 Inlet Camshaft

Post by Anthug » Sat Sep 25, 2004 2:04 pm

Hi All,

I am in the process of rebuilding a replacement cylinder head for my engine
(1990 1.6L).

Just found out the locating dowel pin for the cam gear on the inlet camshaft
has been snapped off.

Does anyone have a spare inlet cam for a 1.6 they want to sell?

Regards,

Anthony.

if you're in Auckland, City Garage has a spare head sitting around at the
moment...

It shouldn't be that hard to just remove and replace the dowel...

its 5mm diameter, and any engineering supply can give you what you need
(about 5mm diameter and 10-15mm long), I think I payed 50c or $2 ? nearly
nothing.

You could try removal either by applying heat, and then tapping the
cam-shaft with a hammer while the offending end was facing downwards (ie.
shock/gravity)

Or, drill/tap a small hole down the middle of it and extract it with a
screw?

In any case, I think you can solve this problem for way less than the price
of a camshaft or head...

Thanks Fletch, great information, had wondered about it being removable.

Shall give it a try.

Anthony.
