no-zip glass rear window roof!!

Post by Badcat » Tue Aug 24, 2004 6:16 pm

last week some teenager in urgent need of hospitalisation slashed my roof
while i was working late.
as my malicious damage excess is $1250 - i had no insurance effectively.
BUT...
i called al - at al's upholstery - and he now has new robbins glass rear
window rooves - and they also don't need to be zipped up!!
i am out in my car a lot during the day - and zipping and unzipping the roof
is a constant pain in the ass for me.
so - with my new roof - i can SEE OUT THE BACK and I DON"T HAVE TO ZIP!!!
also, my car is an 89 - and i have the later rear suspension brace behind the
seats. the new roof still fits fine with the brace.
i'm a happy camper!
poor - but happy!!

Yeah I've just invested in a new glass window roof for my 1990 & can
thoroughly recommend both it & Al. A very efficient & friendly service
indeed. My new roof fits perfectly with draft stopper & roll bars. Al was
saying the glass option is very popular. Soooo much nicer than my old grundy
roof all tatty inside & zip that had to be treated with kid gloves. I now
don't even mind driving with top up!

I assume that u're using the old frame? Any problem with lowing or raising
the new unzip roof? I want to get one for my 89 too. Do u have the vinyl
or cloth ones?

Cheers
Philip

no-zip glass rear window roof!!

hi philip.
yep - it uses the standard frame - al fits it all in about 3-4 hours and it's a
vinyl one. i'm totally wrapt with mine
cost was $1200 + gst including fitting.
this is my 3rd replacement roof (had mx5s for 10 years) and easily the best
roof ive ever seen.
lowering and raising is just a snap - so much easier.
worth every penny.

Ken, That was mine! Very pleased with it. You didn't have a gander under the
old bonnet? Or check out the new brakes? We live in One Tree Hill but I work
in Taka's.

no - i'm guessing you have a cold air box (i have a japanese hand fabbed one
with a pod filter) as i have the same vented headlight).
tell me about the brakes...
i have the queensland stage 3 pads on the fronts and ebc greens on the rear
- everything else is standard though.
have you just repainted that car?
