Car magazine tyre test results/ spare tyres

You are absolutely spot on with that little piece of advice, even at the
other end of the scale.

My days of haring round tracks (or more frequently the roads), at high speed
are long gone, but having always run the 5 at 28 lbs for normal running, I
put my glasses on on Saturday and discovered that the recommendation for my
tyres is 26, only two psi, but a noticeable improvement in ride comfort.

By the way, I notice that the spare seems to lose pressure rather more
quickly than I would expect, I run it at 60 psi and check it about once a
month, when it is frequently down to 20 psi. Is this normal for these small,
high pressure tyres, or do I sense a bill coming on

When I was being diligent & checking my tyres monthly, I found that
the spare seemed to lose about 10psi a month - enough that I'd
generally pump it up again each time, but not enough that I'd bother
checking it more frequently.

As for bills coming on, I imagine you could get a second-hand one
cheaply - my Father acquired a whole pile of them recently (and got
rid of them again) when he wanted the rims for something else.
