Glenns filler cap...

Post by poison » Mon Jul 19, 2004 8:11 pm

Hi Glenn

Better start a new thread. Hope it's not your trade secret, but on your fuel
cap is it actually two pieces or did you just get the line engraved? I assume
two pieces but you can't see any lines looking from below, or is it in fact
the two top pieces stuck down onto a third piece.

It's really great.

Cheers

PS:- I still have not done my white gauges but I did get a white heater
control panel from eBay. Pretty good quality but not fitted yet, so I'll have
to see.

The filler cap is two piece, the underneath picture on
the site was taken before i finished it. I had to
drill some 1mm holes in the lid to start the cut.
I used new sheet aluminium and buffed it with 1500
grit wet/dry then polished it by hand which was very
easy. I havent coated it at all, the autosol polish
tends to keep the alloy in good condition for quite
some time. when working with the alloy, make sure to
use cardboard or plastic vice protectors to prevent
scratching the alloy.

Cheers for that Glenn

But how do you stop the middle bit from falling out?

Araldite has many uses. and this is one of them!! Bolt
up the outer ring to the frame so its fits the
aperture, then glue the center to the factory frame
use masking tape to keep the gap even all round till
the glue has dried. Over 6 months now of petrol
station attendant abuse and its still holding!
(Hint: paint the top of the frame black so you dont
see it through the gap of the flap, and thats a rap)
