1.8 in 1990 problems

It seems that the prolonged rich mixture in the 1.8 has done for the rings -
bugger. Oil getting dirty really quick and burning a litre every 1000k.

So out it comes for repair or replace.

Advice please. How much will it cost to get a hone and new rings if I take
the short block to the man? I'm in Auckland, who should I go see?

Will need a gasket set - any ideas on price of those?

Maybe I'll just get another engine if I can find one that is good. That way
I have the old one to play with...

Anybody know of a good 1.8 engine.
