Campaign to Cut Petrol Prices!

Received the following which sounds like a good idea. A very interesting
idea...will it work ? Apparently we are going to hit close to $1.35 a litre
by the winter.

Want petrol prices to come down?

We need to take some intelligent, united action. Philip Hollsworth, offered
this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a
certain "day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil
companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to
"hurt ourselves" by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience
to us than it was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really
work.

Please read it and join in!

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think
that the cost of a litre is CHEAP at .89 / .95 cents, we need to take
aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace not
sellers.

With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take
action.

The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit
someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that
WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

Here's the idea.

For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest
oil companies (which now are one - BP)

If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their
prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to
follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of
BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!

Now, don't whimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how
simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at
least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more
(300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth
generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all (and not buy
at BP).

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more
people within one day of receipt, all 3 MILLION people could conceivably
be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you!
Acting together we can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 80 cents a LITRE RANGE.

It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol
at Shell, Caltex, Mobil, g,a.s. or Gulf Outlets and drive straight by BP
Stations.

80 cents a litre, huh?

The slogan off a certain advert for beer springs to mind...

Yeah, Right, but a concerted campaign against one oil company would probably
have an impact on the whole Cartel. However, given the general apathy of the
New Zealand public, don't hold your breath to see it happen

Yeah ok well I started anyway, shopping Pak'n'sav and petrol discount at
Mobil instead of Countdown and B.P., by the way got my cup holder cover
in the mail this week, from ebay in the states, replacement to put over
ash tray, restained it mahogany to match handbrake , gear knob and
steering wheel car looks a million dollars now.

I'm inclined to agree with Eric. Great idea though - perhaps more for the
Australian or the Pomy temperament. The same logic could also work for power
prices and a number of other services we need to use. But not for the Kiwis
I'm afraid.

Anyway, wouldn't all three million of these consumers need to have an email
address for this to work?

This campaign to target one of the oil co's is nonsense. They do a good job
in my opinion getting the stuff out of the ground, half way around the
world, refined and then to a pump near me for the price they do. Get a
campaign underway to minimise the tax skimmed by self righteous, vote buying
politicians and I might be interested - get real, black list HC not BP.

I agree.
I read somewhere (cant remember where now) that for every $100.00 we pay for
petrol, $55 is tax, and of that $12 just disappears.
There was a list of the $ values like GST, road charges, ACC levy etc, but
it was $12.00 short, this is called "General Revenue", screw the
politicians, give some back, and what is the price going to be when we all
have the pleasure of paying for Auckland's roading cock up?
Why don't we start bombarding the right people?
Its not as though we cant afford to drop some of the tax, we have a record
surplus, it amazes me that the gov. will crow about how well they have done
and we may get some handouts in the budget!
Bloody hell, for the money we pay them its exactly what I expect, now I want
some specific tax relief, it seems fairly reasonable.
Just my 2 cents worth.
