Fuel Costs & Vendor praise... (was Re: Regular v. Premiu

Post by zorruno » Wed May 19, 2004 9:21 pm

Re octane ratings - I've never felt any difference in performance, but in
the summer I get a bit of knock running 91 and also when the car gets a bit
hot sometimes under load. Timing runs around 16 deg BTDC advance last time
I checked. I don't get knock with higher octanes. (never checked mileage...)

On a slightly different note - I put over $50 worth of fuel into Z
yesterday - I'm pretty sure that was the first time ever...
BP Ultimate 98 - 38.32 Litres, $1.349 per L = $51.69

cheers

PS: and whilst we're praising vendors... I agree with Glyn's work at City
Garage. He has given me lots of good advice (and worked on my OTM). He
certainly knows his way around MX5s, and used to be with North Shore Mazda
in a past life. He's a club sponsor and offers discounts for club members.

And for Tyres, (I mention this every time I buy Tyres!), Owen at Performance
Tyres (in Morningside, Auckland) is brilliant. I bought a couple more tyres
the other day and spent over an hour there chatting to him (whilst he fitted
my tyres). He charged me $30/tyre less than the prices I could get from
Beaurepaires, Firestone Direct, and a couple of other tyre outfits (and
that's with a hefty discount from Beaurepaires via my Wife's work) He also
noticed one of my rims was out of balance, which he fixed nicely with a
large rubber mallet... He knows everything there is to know about tyres,
cars, motorsport and must be pushing 60 something by now. Still drives a
turbo skyline & supercharged Civic though...

(no affiliation with either by the way!)
