Speed Cameras - Insurance

Post by Simon Lord » Sun Apr 04, 2004 9:11 am

Just flicking through that UK speed camera site and following one of the
links, there was an interesting reference which suggested that if you had a
speed camera infringement recorded against you then your insurance premium
could increase by up to four times. Does anyone know more about that - does
it relate to a loss of no-claims bonus, perhaps? Sounds like another unholy
alliance to me between a revenue-gathering government (which gets 17.5% VAT
on insurance premiums) and an industry renowned for wriggling.

I am not in any sense a conspiracy theorist, but such unfortunate
coincidences are enough to make anyone wonder. I was back in the UK twice
last year and can confirm that driving there is nothing like a pleasure
unless you strike, as I did, a beautiful spring day in the Scottish
Highlands when you could almost think you were in New Zealand...
