have i done something wrong?

here's the original post...

my sad story...
i lent my 89 MX5 to my mother in law - for a trip into northland.
<okay - okay - i know...>
the key broke off in the boot!
no problem - couriered up the spare to her.
PROBLEM is...
while waiting for the spare - a friend in dargaville disassembled the
lock -removing the arm from the lock to the clasp assembly.
THEN closed the boot.
D'oh!!!
so - i havea boot i can't open as the lock is disconnected.
is there another way in?

anyone?
anyone?
bueller?

Hi Ken.
Been there... locked the key in the boot whilst on the Rawene ferry...
without the arm to physically release the latch you're stuffed. I suspect the
next option is to cut a hole behind the numberplate big enough to get your
hand/pliers through to release the latch manually.

You can drill a hole through the indent in the panel on the RH side (behind
the number plate). It looks like a dimple and there are 2 of them. Then you
can get needle nose pliers through the hole and pull the rod that runs from
the key to the latch. If the arm is not there youll have to try and hook
the latch which may be 'fun'. Ross.
