Aircon troubles

Hello i have a question
I always thought the air con in my 89 didnt work, however im not sure why i
tried but one day i pushed firmly on my a/c button and held it down and
v'oila! The aircon works.

Now i want to know if anyone has dismantled the dash,in particualr the aircon
button and if i can fix it, or will i have to, and can i buy a replacement.

Aha mine also didn't work , it was the black A/C button that had broken , I just removed the rotary knob and it fell out I just push the internal spline to activate the A/C now, actually its good as it glows green when my lights are on and it reminds to turn them off when I leave the car.

thanks, my hope was to reinstall the knob, i figured that may be the
problem, i admit i havnt had a really good look but whats the way to remove
the knob? is there a grub screw?

Just friction fit, ease a flat screwdriver under and slide out , in all
probability the inside hub of the A/C button is broken and wont grip on A/C
spline, either do without {like me} or get replacement from Auto dismantler.
