Electric Mirrors

Post by Bayview » Tue Feb 10, 2004 12:14 am

Hello out there,

Recently acquired my first MX5 - '98. Fabulous and fun!

Unfortunately it didn't have electric mirrors and would really like to add
them. Anyone had experience on where I might source a set and the relative
degree of difficulty in installing same.

Regards,
Brian (in WLTN)

I don't know of any aftermarket ones. Adapting a set from another car won't
be easy if you want the installation to look 'factory'. The control switch
will be hard to integrate well.

I wondered about this too when I got mine, as I haven't had a car without
electric mirrors for years. Eventually I decided the answer was simple - set
the mirrors once and don't let anyone else drive it!

In America all the MX5's (Miata) had the option of coming out with electric
mirrors so you may be able to source some from there.

Electric Mirrors

Electric mirrors were a factory option from around 95/96. I have a mate who
has a 1.8 which I think is 95 that had horrible wee mirrors when he bought
it. He obtained a set of MX5 electric mirrors and the control switch (from
Mazline in CHCH I think) and discovered that all the necessary wiring loom
was already in place. It was a simple case of plug and play. Have a look and
see if there is any wiring in place in the doors

Probably from the time of the engine change, and other changes (brakes etc)
in 1994, they were standard, my 94 1.8 has them, but I recall driving 1600s,
while I was looking for a car, which did not have them and I'm sure I drove
a couple that did.

These people have advertised 1.6's 1990 onwards with electric mirrors.
