Metallic rattling on over run

Post by Michael Donovan » Mon Feb 09, 2004 5:06 pm

HI Chris
I have the same problem and now just ignore it for the meantime. Yes it is
very loud for me too, and I often feel embaressed at driving a
"bucket'o'bolts. Mine began shortly after I had a clutch replaced, and was
accompanied by a loud sort of screeching sound whenever I used the clutch. I
ended up replacing the clutch again myself and it got rid of the screech but
not the horrible rattle. I figure it is either the pilot bearing(not replaced
with clutch) or somewhere in the gearbox. If I am on overrun and push the
clutch in the noise dissapears. Doesn't help much I'm afraid but I'll be very
interested to see if any solutions appear here as well.

Cheers
Mike

Metallic rattling on over run

I am getting a horrid metallic rattling noise on over run. It is far worse when heading down a hill. It
stops if the car is out of gear.
It has been into North Shore Mazda for this twice and (several hundred dollars later), I have the
blimmin noise back again.
Me too. I had a gearbox rebuild a couple of years ago and it never sounded
the same again. A nasty whine on overrun in first and second. I learned to
live with it, and despite sounding like the gearbox is about to fall out, it has
stayed the same for years.

Does anyone have any ideas?
