MX5 on Trademe

Post by peter » Sun Feb 08, 2004 11:25 pm

The red auto that was listed on TradeMe with a $1 reserve ended up selling
for $8300.

...the new owner relisted it almost immediately with a starting bid of
$5500, and has this to say :

"Seller Comment: This ad may look familiar to you. We purchased this
vehicle sight unseen and found it to be not to our expectations. The
following question was from a bidder who travelled some distance to view the
vehicle. His question was made on the original auction but did not appear to
other bidders because the seller never answered it, chosing to keep it
hidden. We found his observations to be very accurate."

(from the original auction) : Seller Comment: Don't you think you should
tell the punnters about the car needing...a new paint job,a new soft
top ,a new set of tyres and not to mention the fact that all the mags have
kerb damage. And that it needs a new radio surround and that the dash is
damaged . I fell you are miss leading everyone in your discription of the
car.Good luck posted by: mx5nut (26 ) 6:44 pm, Fri 6 Feb

The feedback posted on the original seller is interesting :
"We were totally mislead to the tune of $8300. He is an absolute
scoundrel. Sale was completed to satisfy our obligation. Seller(Guest
Coughlan) totally refused to put it right. We feel completely CONNED.

I am sorry the purchaser is now unhappy. They viewed the car before
paying and were very happy. I put the car up for auction with a one dollar
reserve the bidders set the price.

Ah! the fun of auctions!

Hi All,

I am getting a horrid metallic rattling noise on over run. It is far
worse when heading down a hill. It stops if the car is out of gear.

Does anyone have any ideas?

It has been into North Shore Mazda for this twice - and (several hundred
dollars later), I have the blimmin noise back again.

Chris

Not just the joy of auctions - but the joy of buying anything "sight

Auctions are one of the ultimate cases of 'buyer beware'. Cars, even more so. Put the two together and KAZAAAM, issue time. People have to remember - bargains really are hard to find.

If the car was misrepresented (as in claims it was in excellent condition),
then the buyer may be able to claim through the disputes tribunal for upto
$7,500, under Consumer Guarantees Act.
http://www.consumeraffairs.govt.nz/busi ... icles.html

This will depend upon whether Trademe is classified as an "auction" or not.
My understanding is that they claim they are not a licensed auctioneer
(www.legislation.govt.nz - Auctioneers Act 1928)
