The front door speakers of my 91 V Spec are nearing the end of their useful
life and I thought I would replace them. I still have the original factory
radio/tape/CD.

There is a reference in the MX5 Information pages which recommend Alpine
SPS-1729 as they have numerous holes which means they will fit the existing
speaker holes. Cost $159 pair.

Has anyone else got any alternative suggestions that I can consider.

Hi Greg.

I installed a pair of speakers I had (Sony, I think). I drilled new holes in
the door to match the holes in the speakers. No problem and the improvement
in sound was dramatic. They were reasonably cheap speakers, probably around
the equivalent of a $70.00 pair today.

Hi...

Installed some Pioneer 2 ways into my 93 a few months back - model 1640 from
memory. Currently on sale in numerous outlets (Smith and Smith and poss Harvey
Norman) for as litte as $59 pr. Excellent value for money...may have to drill
3 or 4 small holes, 5 mins work.

6.5 inch Sony Xplods fit directly on the holes, you can get them cheaply from
the Sony factory shop in Nugent St Khyber Pass in Auckland, great!
