Battery, does an open boot turn on a light and drain it?

Post by jolyon39 » Thu May 18, 2006 10:03 am

Hi,

Well, I have had the car for 4 weeks and the battery in my 1989 MX seems to
have died. Do I have to use a special battery from Mazda?

Also, I left the boot open to dry out some moisture that got in around the
aerial. Does opening the boot turn on a light somewhere that could have
drained the battery. My car is an early 1989 model.

Regards,

Hi
You don't have to buy a Mazda battery but it is the best type of battery for
the MX5 for a number of reasons - the battery construction as well as the
limited ventilation available in the boot. The club discount at your Mazda
dealer helps. A normal battery can be used but is not as good. If the car is
left for more than 1 week or 2, it is not uncommon for an older battery to
go flat, especially if it has an alarm.

If you have an alarm fitted, the interior lights are quite likely on when
the boot lid is up. Vince.
