I went down to North Harbour Mazda a few days after Eric wrote that. IPURLEE should be back on the road by the weekend, I have been very jealous seeing all of the MX5s going past in the last four weeks. She now has a new roof, which was obtained from Mazda (a genuine Robbins) for $750 inc GST on special and required fitting.
asked nicely, flashed my club membership card, and enquired about a
current special deal. This is the quote they gave me:
NA01 R1210 M FABRIC, TOP-SOFT $789.48
NAY1 R1240 G WINDOW BACKSOFT TOP $289.47
(those prices include GST, and the window is plastic)
Add these prices together and you get $1213 for a new roof/window.
I asked if this included the MX5club discount - the man pointed at the
"Unit List" column, which showed prices about 10% higher. I asked about
the "special" I had heard of - he shrugged.
I did not take them up on this deal. In my experience, North Harbour
Mazda have never given me any sort of deal that was worth having. I
presume one needs to be in the trade before they will admit to having
any sort of special.

Just before talking to the 'helpful' people at Mazda, I stopped in atI think Paul will bear me out that it should take no more than about 3-4 hours, say $200 in labour, that seems to have been the going rate, so at the "special price" you should be able to swap the lid for under a grand at the moment
All Care Upholstery to see what they would charge for fitting the roof
if I supplied it - they gave me a rough quote of $400+GST (or more if it
turned out to be a difficult brand to fit).
I've not yet had the roof replaced (no fiscal allocation), but I will be
getting more quotes before I do - I am not inspired by the quotes I have
been given thus far!
