Electrical lighting prioblem

Post by Perry perry » Fri Apr 28, 2006 5:55 pm

I have a problem with the light which lights up the speedo/tach etc and the
light which lights up the heater controls on the dash. They don't work when
I turn on my head lights.

I have checked the fuses and they are OK.

At the same time one of my head lights blew, so I don't know if this event
is connected.

I checked all the 10 amp fuses and they were OK.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Electrical lighting prioblem

I would carefully check all earth connections in the various lighting
circuits. When odd things like this happen, poor earths are a common cause,
especially as connections age and develop small amounts of corrosion.
As an example, just after purchasing my NB a year ago, the engine stopped
and would not start again when the right hand indicator was switched on (5pm
at a roundabout of course)! Turn indicator off and all was well again.
Traced it to a poor earth behind the right headlight that was the earth
point for the indicator and a number of other components, including (maybe)
the airbag. The airbag warning light also flashed when the right indicator
was on. At least it didn't deploy.
