I am going to pay my insurance for the MX5 NB '99 this week for the second
time now (bought it last year ) , and have no alarm /immobiliser etc and
I pay $ 335.23 for a full cover ( $13.500 plus windscreen plus road side
assistance ) and have a 65 % no claim. and a $ 250 excess ( not too bad
I thought ) ...State Insurance !

One thing that does make a significant difference to a premium is
whether or not the insurance is "Agreed value" or "Market value".

I always insure my cars "Agreed value", which ensures that, if I have a
total loss, I do not find myself, at the whim of an insurance company's
assessor, in the position of not being able to replace what I have, with
something similar in function.

For instance, I have a 1990 Mazda 626, inherited from my father. It has
a market value, according to NZI, of about $1500 tops. But it is in
pristine condition, has less than 90K on the clock and I would need to
spend between $6000 & $7000 to buy another car, as good, in the same
condition and mileage, albeit that it would have to be a later car.

But the age is not a factor in this car's function, it merely lowers
it's market value, not it's replacement value.

Thus, the correct level of insurance for this car is it's replacement
value, and Insurance companies, if they do agreed value at all, charge a
premium for this type of insurance

We are insured with AA. They now give extra discount if the car has an alarm
fitted: when we insured it originally (5 years ago) the alarm was mandatory to
get the insurance. Cost per year for $21k agreed value on a 2000 Special
Edition was $326 this year in Upper Hutt, garaged, 65% no claims. The biggest
advantage with AA is, once you have been with them for enough years, your no
claims bonus can never be lost (guaranteed for life).

Hi All,

We are currently experiencing a leak at the top of the divers windshield
frame. I read on the miata.net website that this may be due to dirty or
damaged mouldings. I tried adjusting the roof tension but had no joy.
Any suggestions?

Cheers

John

We have left the new roof up for about three weeks, so that it settles
in to shape, but it is still quite tight, particularly on the left,
sometimes the latch simply will not engage properly.

I am guessing that there is a simple way to adjust it, can anyone steer
me in the right direction.

Hi Eric,

We have been fiddling with our roof as well trying to get it "just
right" and still hav cured that leak. Here is how to adjust the roof, on
our NA, I assume the system is the same for other models.

If your convertible top doesn't latch securely, or the latches seem to
be difficult to close, they may be adjusted improperly. Open the latch
and examine the inside. There is a small plastic 'cover' that keeps the
latch adjustment screw from moving. Pop the cover off and adjust the
screw as needed to get the latches to close smoothly, yet tight enough
to keep the top from rattling or leaking. If the latches become
difficult to open or close, a small amount of oil on the moving parts
should help. Don't over tighten, as this will make the top difficult to
close.

Good luck.

Cheers

John
