Worn Rubber

Post by RD5T3R » Sun Mar 26, 2006 9:23 pm

Hi Guys
Hope those who braved the weather to the Coromandel had a good run!!? As for
me I replaced the gear lever gaiter with a new Tan one and it looks really
spiffy now. However, when I removed the nardi gear lever I realised just how
badly worn/melted the rubber around the top was. Had noticed the occasional
black hand on hot days... Anyone know if they are replaceable? I guess Ross
would know but just in case someone has already swapped them with a new band
from para rubber or similar let me know - thanks.

Worn Rubber

Post by poison » Sun Mar 26, 2006 10:26 pm

Hi Stewart

Are you talking about the rubber gator at the bottom of the gear shift?

They wear out after a few years and are a simple job to replace, and the car
in much quieter too.

hey Richard, have you tried driving an example of what you're after?
Might help to clarify things.

The reason I suggested using a system with the ELF or Voodoo box for
fuelling/timing is to not only keep things simple but also maintain
the driveability (ie the stock ecu!) . Mine has a Link and seems to go
out of tune every now and then, resulting in a low WAF. Even when it
is running right, she refuses to touch it - a mixed blessing ;)

I guess part of the reason people are down on JRSC's is because
they're fairly maxed out - and boost is addictive... (so they say)

Worn Rubber

Post by RD5T3R » Mon Mar 27, 2006 6:48 am

No I'm not. I actually replaced the gearbox gaiter at the same time and what
a difference to the heat and noise coming through (as winter approaches it was
suggested by HID that it would have been better to leave the ripped one in "as
it kept the coffee and knees pretty warm"...hmm!). Note: getting the
small seal on is a trap for the unwary as you have to cut the old one off and
then force fit (lubrication helps) back onto the shaft of the gear lever.

No I am talking about the rubber band near the top of the gear lever. Its
about 1 cm wide and ours is doing its best to degrade thanks to the exposure
to the elements methinks - hence the black hand marks on a hot day.

Should the green ring around the lighter light up on a NA ?

You're right Jeff about the JRSC limitations...
I know that if i had spent $4K on a JRSC and ended up
with less power than i currently have with my $3K
turbo, then i would be VERY VERY unhappy.
Depending on youre ability as a diy er and how good
youre mechaniic/tuner is, is the biggest factor to successful install.
I still reckon an AVO turbo with a ELF or Voodoo,or
"link turbo 2"(forgot about those in my last thread,)
would be a good solution.
