David Parker & ROAD TOLLS

Post by MadMaz » Fri Mar 17, 2006 12:04 pm

Hi all

Ref: The letter e-mailed re Fuel and Road taxes I sent to David Parker,
Minister of Transport and Transport Safety on 12th February, on which 30
members kindly added their names to lend support.

No wonder we haven't heard from Parker, despite my repeated phone calls to his
Private Secretary in Wellington.

News just out: David Parker has released Ministry of Transport road toll
options: To place a $6.00 a day toll for Auckland Harbour Bridge crossings and
$5.00 a day to enter or leave the Auckland CBD. And to put tolls on other
existing roads - i.e. sections of the Auckland Motorways and main arterial
routes within the city.

Parker's plans must have been already well down the track when he received our
e-mail.

And of course he's also in another hot seat, as Minister of Energy, now that
it's been officially announced that New Zealand may experience power blackouts
or brownouts this year. (Meaning probably will).

I'd appreciate any feedback from all those who put their name on the letter
and from anyone interested - to comment on, explore and suggest new ways we
can employ the original letter as an even greater lever, as the timing of it's
delivery could be termed to have been strategic.

Please feel free to send to my personal e-mail address to avoid clogging the
List.

Cheers
Mark

Congrats Dave - this could be the first step on a long and wonderful journey...

"minor" - low cost, reasonable WAF (wife acceptance factor)
- a Lanny or Miq alignment from a specialist
- timing bump
- intake / header / exhaust
- many would say sporty tyres here, but fun != grip ;)
- basic weight removal

...

"medium" - spendy, low WAF
- suspension (shocks'n'springs, anti-sway bars)
- more weight removal
- piggyback computer and dyno tuning

...
...

"mondo" - expensive, you have no wife at this point ;)
- forced induction, associated upgrades to clutch, radiator, diff etc
- bigger, lighter brakes
- stickier tyres on lighter wheels
- more weight loss
- chassis stiffening
- driving around with a laptop trying to tune the monster

it's a slippery path ... :D
