And you thought petrol prices made a MX5 Expensive to run ..

Hi Chris

I had to read your message very carefully, three times over, to fully
appreciate the magnitude of all the facts.

And especially, to fully appreciate the content of the last paragraph "Putting
everything into perspective".

Then to imagine, very carefully in my mind, how it would feel for both the
'Vette driver in actuality (and the dragster driver at an 8G launch and 4G
average for the run to pass & beat the 'Vette within only 1,320 feet, the
'Vette having the advantage of a 200 mph speed at the start line).

I'll employ a term now that I used to express as a young fellow, which
describes an attitude of being amazed or of incredulousness:

"STREWTH!"

(Now I'm having trouble digesting my lunch - I can't get the sheer power &
dynamics out of my head!).

Cheers & Thanks
Mark

Hi Chris,

To put that in perspective, I once saw two Royal Navy Sea Harrier Fighters
demonstrate at KeriKeri.

One was stationary about mid-point of the runway, but running at full power, (
you don't know what noise is until you have heard that close up) whilst the
other approached from behind at 350 knots plus (405 mph) about 100 ft off the
ground.

As the airborne Harrier crossed the threshold, some 2000 ft behind the
stationary Harrier, the stationary Harrier released its brakes, got airborne
in about 150 ft and flew away, with the second Harrier in close formation
behind it, the second aircraft not having slowed down by as much as a knot!
Now that's acceleration!

Actually, it's burning about 1.5 times the fuel of a 747, a 747 burns almost
exactly an imperial gallon a second at mid weight cruise

My favourite moment with the Harrier was when it made an appearance to the
crowd at the British GP at Brands Hatch in around 1986. It flew over,
reversed, stopped, bowed to the crowd and then took off vertically. During the
process, it set off an estimated 22,000 noise-sensitive car alarms in the car
parks!

Dave...
im talking about "standard" number plates, when you
get a new car you can choose between the big
yellow/black ones or have white/black with a small
front plate which is about 60% of the Normal size.
