Overheating

Post by Mikkels » Mon Mar 13, 2006 8:09 pm

I've had a problem with overheating with my MX for a while now. Began about
a year ago when the car started to get hot in traffic and on the open road.
No water loss or anything but would hold temp for a while after warming up
then get a bit hotter on the gauge if provoked. Tracked the problem to a
blocked radiator core. Had the core rodded out and all was fine for a while
then began doing the same thing although not as bad. Took the radiator out
again for another rodding. The guy said it was blocked up again even though
I used good coolant all of the time. So I got the core replaced this time
with a dual core high flow core. Thinking of going turbo sometime so it was
a kind of upgrade come problem fix.

All working well now. Cost $400 from Trevor Morris in Onehunga.

Overheating

So that is what happened. Anyway did hose the engine out really well when I
had it out in January putting the aluminium flywheel in. Yep lots of rusty
water came out. Did the heater core as well so hopefully we are all good
now. The guy said that older MX have this problem as the standard core is
quite fine (down tube size) Ne core is much more gooder :-)

When an engine has been getting hot for a while all sorts of hard flakey
stuff forms in the cooling system. It often promptly jams in the top of the
radiator downtubes and you have another blocked radiator. Always give the
block a good hosing out while the radiator ia removed. You need to remove
the (gulp) thermostat to do this... geoff.

Hi All,

Just a head's up on the next event for the Northern/Waikato/BOP groups (and
anyone else, cos everyone's welcome :O) . You'll be receiving a flyer in the
mail shortly with details for the March event.

However... due to an eeny weeny oversight, I would like to advise that the
Coromandel Coast Run will be happening on SUNDAY THE 26TH OF MARCH. (I think
that was all I forgot..) The date has been noted either on the outside of your
envelope or on the flyer but just in case its not clear.

Look forward to seeing everyone there, and Dave M has offered to do the next
flyer (thanks Dave! :OP)

Cheers,
Nix
