Club member discount is 5% on all new hoods and 30% on windows (per
committee discussion last month) Also does Boat covers...
I stopped in to see him, and was quoted $1250 for a new roof (for a
1989, plastic rear window). He assured me that this was a 'sharp
price', but I thought that $1100 was a normal price, let alone sharp
pricing.

There was some discussion of what to do with my glass rear-window, and
whether the window section could be re-fitted to the new roof, but I
don't believe that was included in the quote (but I could be wrong). He
(and his colleague) hadn't seen an unzippable glass window before.

I didn't get a written quote for a roof with glass window, but he
suggested at least $1500 for that. I rather like having a glass window
- it seems to provide a much clearer view, especially in the wet (I'm
comparing it with a well-treated/nearly-new plastic one I had
before).

Should I be looking for quotes elsewhere? All Care are conveniently
close to my home, and Eric had kind words to say about their work, but
I'm not yet convinced that the deal is good.

Karl,

I have had to replace the roof on Purlee as a result of the accident, the
panel beater tells me that Mazda have the plastic window hoods on special at
about $750 at the moment (I was trying to persuade the insurance company to
come up with a glass windowed one, They were $1250 and I did not feel it was
worth contributing the difference).

You might want to check with your local Mazda Dealer. Mine came from John
Andrew in Wairau Park

Canterbury Mazda quoted me $850 for a hood recently (presumably plastic
window), and they estimated about $250 to fit. This matches the
estimate of $1100 I got from a car upholsterer.
