Wow we have followed this with some interest I must say.

Though you sound like cannon fodder for Smokey and the Bandits my friend!!
But what a rocket powered roller skate that will be - awesome

Look forward to being in your slipstream... as you turn to a dot
way up in the distance ahead of us!!

Cheers

For Nm - ft/lbs multiply by 0.737.
For ft/lbs - Nm multiply by 1.356
That's a lot of boogie for a little car - hope you can afford heaps of tyres.
Also, if you keep grinning you'll get bugs between your teeth.

Congrats Glen,

That's pretty healthy for a small about of boost on a stock engine.

cool - this makes you the resident expert on e-manage tuning ! Good work :)

and since you're on the slippery slope of the dark side ... I got a
4.3 torsen here for when u need it later, hehe.

PS ... say isn't that turbo meant to be good for ~250rwhp ? ;-) :D
480Nm is darn healthy tho...

Gidday Glen

It's not so much the horesepower I'm amazed at - it's the peak torque
figure. 480 Nm is one heck of a lot of twist for a small car weighing only
about a tonne! Even the modified Mitsi Evo's and Sti's don't often run more
than 530 Nm - and they're a lot heavier than an MX5 and have the drag of the
4 wheel drive train to boot.

I'd sure be interested to see you put SLYDIT through it's paces on the track
if you ever want to do that at a later stage.

Let us know!

Cheers
Mark

Yeah i was pretty impressed by the torque too...
The funny thing is that the rich spot lower down is
right in the middle of the torque peak which runs from
about 4250 to 5400 if i could sort that out id have a
FLAT torque curve of around 480-500 from 4200 to 5500
That would be mucho grando!!!
i must admit i was grimmacing a bit as the dyno guy
revved the snot out of it al the way to redline at
"max" boost over and over and over. Poor baby i think
ill give it a rest for a little while at least!

Stock brakes means lots of go and not much whao!

thats good going, but remember your torque figure is at the wheels, where as
those quoted for the Evos etc will be at the engine. Torque at the wheels
has been multiplied by the gearing in the diff etc so will always be higher
than at the engine.

Where did you have the dyno done? I like to get mine on one at some stage.

I had it dyno'd at "Dr Repower" in Tauranga... He is
pretty well respected in this area and has a 4WD dyno.
He spent about 20 minutes hooking up all sorts of
probes and sensors to the car before we started...
Poor thing looked like it was on life support!
$100 per hour if you want to know the $$$$$$$$

I looked at the printouts on the wall of the dyno and
there were two cars runs which had... 400+ rear
wheel killowatts!!! HOLY CRAP!!!

JUST DYNO'D 193 RWHP !!!! YAY! :)

Hi again Glenn

Even running stock discs and callipers, go get a good set of metallic pads
(and have the discs machined) and run them in gently for the first few
hundred k's and then brake progressively harder for the next few hundred.

This'll make for much increased stopping power with plenty of bite. If the
car's got more than 100,000 k's on the clock, replace the brake master
cylinder - this item (in any make of car) is well known to pack it in when
the going gets tough. And flush the entire braking system through and run
Dot 5 braking fluid.or better.

Know what you mean about someone else revving the hell out of your pride and
joy on the dyno - happened to me with my VR4 years ago - I was sort
of...well annoyed somehow even though I knew it was the name of the game.

Are you near Pukekohe race track? If you would like to take SLYDIT onto the
track on a test day, I'd be happy to accompany you out there in my (mere 170
Hp) Astina. Just watch that hairpin though at the end of the back
straight - pays to take that one real easy in a road car with smooth braking
from the 200 metre mark or earlier and just have a max fun time around the
rest of the track.

By the way, chuck in a new thermostat if older then two years - these things
are the number two cause of overheating problems (because they can stick and
not fully open up properly) that tend to show up when you're really pushing
your car hard.

Cheers
Mark

Now I'm even more envious. Great job!

480Nm = 354 ft/lb

Multiply Nm by 0.737561 to convert to ft/lb

Ford's current XR6 turbo (4.0 litre six) makes 480Nm.

*****Ford's current XR6 turbo (4.0 litre six) makes 480Nm.*****
AT THE ENGINE. there is a VERY big difference between torque at the wheels
and at the engine, its like comparing apples with oranges.
SLYDIT's figures are very good, specialy from a lightly boosted small 4 cyl
in a liteweight car, but you cant compare that with the falcon.
