your fuel tax is going on student loan election bribes.....a

I, too, would love all the petrol tax revenue to be spend on upgrading our
roads and providing more passing lanes, etc...

However, you have to remember that not every government-funded thing is
self-sufficient ... If all income tax went on the dole and schools and all
roading revenue (incl speed-camera tax) went on roads, then where would the
money for police, fire-brigade, hospital and the PM's private jet come from?
The income does need to be split up and dished out to cover the various
needs (as well as some being frittered away).

Still, there is obviously an extra bonus coming from the high petrol price.

If you put all revenue from road taxes etc into the roads, no other area of
society would miss out as there is more than enough money. Unless labour of
course, as they have done and can be expected to continue, they prop up
their bank account adding to the enormous cirplus (in the $billions) while
health sevices, education etc are in a very sad state. Also if they simply
stopped handing out money hand over fist to those that dont deserve it (dole
bludgers) and stopped being so PC regarding race issues there would be
$millions saved.

Hi Darryl

You're absolutely spot on the button.

And we're going to give it a jolly good shot to find out what the truth is
about where all this money is going from government - firing time in 60
minutes!

Cheers

Historical note: taking the road fund licence revenue into the consolidated
fund was first done by Winston Churchill in the UK. Other governments have
copied. I don't think there's a hope in hell of changing this established
practice but it's always worth making a noise. Mark, I support the intent of
your letter and hope that we might get the opportunity to put forward some
positive suggestions for how some part of the money might be better spent.

As for election bribes - alas, the National Party started it and it very
nearly worked!

Simon

Ian,

I used the standard ventilated Brembo OEM 1800 replacements. I do not
have the part number - but you can get them via Brake and Transmission -
retail is $104 (from memory).

For Pads I went with the Bendex Metal King plus. I have found them OK
so far, although I have not taken them on the track as yet.

I did more investigation and (as forecast my Mark on this list) - Once
the upgrades had been done on the car I really didn't need the s/steel
brake lines. Good Fluid and Pads certainly made enough difference. I
have decided to save $$$ and spend the money elsewhere. Should you want
to get them - they are DOT approved and will cause no WOF issues. You
can get them via racebrakes.co.nz

Hope that this helps

C

Chris...

I have an 1800 NA , and am looking to give it brake 'freshen' without
going larger (1800 NA brakes bigger than 1600 NA, as you are probably
aware)

Can you advise the model/type of Brembo disc you used and source/cost?

Also details of the pads, please.
From memory, you mentioned braided lines, recently..I could be a starter
as long as there are no WOF issues, which I suspect means the lines
would come with a certification or similar attached to them?

Thanks, Ian
