I think you'd find that every government we have had have abused the
petrol tax for other purposes. Just about every election they say the
same things.
Personally, I'd rather have the labour government election bribes than
the farce and bribes that were national policies. By cutting the
taxes from petrol (was it just the GST?) ...um where is that extra
money going to be replaced? I'm sure cutting roading works was part
of the greater plan because the income from those taxes would have to
be cut from somewhere. Well, the current government certainly aren't
riding on an economic wave create the by the last national
government/f$#@kup.
Personally I believe the money collected from petrol taxes (and diesel
road user charges) should be exclusively put aside for roading and
road safety (and yes should include public transport). Doesn't matter
which party is in power or who they are propped up by.
But then I can be an opinionated prick.
