Wheels & Tyres & 4 by 4's

Post by MadMaz » Thu Jan 05, 2006 3:22 pm

Hi Ian

Have spoken further with a number of tyre experts this morning and what they
all said concurs with what you've written.

I wrote yesterday of the appalling driving on roads south of Auckland
yesterday. This was graphically illustrated just a few hours ago, only 500m
from my house which is located on an open road speed limit country back road.

One 4 by 4 versus one motorcyclist - fair and square head on at speed - fatal
for the motorcyclist. I know every corner and bump in this road like the back
of my hand and I can fairly guess what happened and who was in the wrong.

We've had countless 4 by 4's slide across and/or right off the road round here
- and I had to take evasive action 5 times last year to avoid hitting the
clowns driving these trucks who were speeding and cutting corners by a
considerable margin.

I've got a message for all drivers of 4 by 4's: Slow down and keep left! If
you want to drive quicker, get an MX5 and still make sure you keep left. A
sportscar a 4 by 4 is not! They are light trucks and should be driven
accordingly.

Cheers
Mark

Wheels & Tyres & 4 by 4's

Hi Ken

The location of the unfortunate accident was Runciman Road, rural Pukekohe,
400m north of Pukekohe East Primary School. It was on a series of tight
twisty bends that I well know from experience can be treacherous if you're not
careful.

The Police had the section of road cordorned off so did not get to see the
motorcycle. I asked one officer if it was a Harley (a local rides one a fair
bit along here) and it wasn't. I can also tell you that the officers were not
happy with what happened and said so in no uncertain terms.

Cheers
