Hooking up factory gauges with a non OE engine?

Post by 12a MX5 » Tue Oct 12, 2010 7:08 pm

Hey all , I got a 12a rotary in my na mx, i have most things working apart from the dash tacho, oil pressure and water temp gauges.
I dont realy need oil and water gauges as I have after market ones to use (would be nice to get them working though) but need the tacho in the dash to work. How would I go about getting it to work? as it probably runs off the factory ecu that I am not using.
Any help would be much appreciated.

There is a wire coming from the igniter (I have a feeling its yellow) that runs straight up to the dash.
The igniter has two feeds, one to the tach and one to the ecu.
you should be able to hook that to your coil

edit: adding punctuation

yea sprsta is right there with the tacho one. unsure if you would be using the factory ignitor with a rotary tho...
The water temp and oil pressure senders are completely separate from the factory ecu, the water temp sender is a small fitting with a spade connector on it at the rear or the factory engine's head(drivers side for B6. Passenger side of BP,IIRC) it has a Black/blue wire on the factory injector loom.
The oil pressure sender is a unit on the block of the piston motor under the intake manifold, once again it has a single spade connector on it,it has a yellow/red wire and is in the main loom that runs to the alternator.

Hope this helps.
