Automatic transmission gear indicator?

Post by 91 V-Spec » Fri Feb 26, 2010 3:52 pm

Does anyone out there know if the auto tranny gear indicator alongside the gearstick is meant to be backlit?

It has a dayglo spot visible through the "window" next to each letter, P, N, D etc, but that doesn't help me much at night, the cabin being as dark as the inside of a cow.

I presently have to count the clicks, and if I lose count, cautiously press the gas pedal to see what gear I'm in. Not always the safest way to find out!

Yes I know the MX5 wasn't designed for an auto, so I'm not going to complain...

Yes it should be lit. I used to have a '92 1.6NA Vspec auto.

Thanks, it is worth pulling the console apart then!
Sick of having to use my phone screen to check it... I wonder if that's illegal now too?

Thanks for that mate!
Definitely a lot less hassle than replacing it myself!
Ten points and a blatant plug for Cole at Bodyworks Panelbeaters!
