Side indicator lights..

Post by Bazza » Thu Dec 12, 2013 10:03 am

Hi guys, been a while...

Need to replace a bulb in the side indicator (in front of drivers door) on my
NA. Googled it and there seems to be a suggestion that it initially moves rearward when pushed, then a screw-driver is used to lever the lug. Mine
doesn't seem to want to move. Before I do something I'll regret later..any tips or advice. A quick search on here doesn't bring anything up, although I'm sure it'll be here somewhere. Tks

see that big lug bit on one side? basically just get a screwdriver and push that in (the repeater will have a small gap to push the screwdriver into) whilst simultaneously pulling it out. It may be a bit stuck if its been in there for eons.

hope that helps and just sing out if you are still stuck

sorry for blurry photo, but I was in a hurry and only have a few minutes

Mine slid rearward with a small amount of force to break the years of road grime, then I just had to tilt and pull them out. No screwdriver needed.

Don't they usually push & twist apart like all the other bulbs holders?

the grey part, the bulb holder is a standard push twist, but you have to pop the lens out to easily get access to it.

Brilliant stuff, thanks guys, the Pix was worth a thousands words.

Have been sampling a few seriously expensive single malt whiskeys so will defer any further attempts to a later time......(experience over enthusiasm)
so will report back later.

All assistance appreciated.

Sorry the pic was so fuzzy, I literally stopped home for 2 mins and was a bit rushed. I'm glad it was useful, I can take a clearer image if needed.

What whiskys were you having? Lately I've started enjoying them

Aha, a Laphroaig and comparing it to a JW Double Black to assess the maltyness. Not easy and takes quite a few to get the picture.

Of less importance, the bloody indicator light still hasn't budged and I'm deciding to leave it a more experienced operator. I have six months to go before I need a new warrant so fast flashing lights will carry on in the meantime.

Perhaps Mr Grey could post another clearer shot for me, I think I can see what needs to be done but a clearer shot may assist. Tks.

sure, no problem.
here is a pic showing how it goes in, the circled bit has a little hole that you can slip a small flathead screwdriver in to push the lug/spring bar thingy in and then it should lever out. Mine were stuck from 23 years of being in place but came loose without too much difficulty. Oh, and this photo is from the passenger side so the hole will be located in the rear facing side of the lens (in the black plastic bit)

I hope this clears things up :)

Spot on thanks, job done. Required a lot more force than you would expect but success. Your picture gave me the confidence to force it that little bit more. Now it's out you' wonder what the problem was.

All assistance and advice gratefully accepted. Now to find the right size bulb.
