Post by warrior » Mon May 20, 2013 5:29 pm

I am looking at replacing the front speakers from a 1992 na. Does anyone know what size they are?

Hey - we just did this one... we got 6.5's for the uuber miata then had to ask someone nicely to slightly enlarge the holes, seemingly cut for 6" speakers which I didn't even know existed... thought they went 4 then 5.25 then 6.5 then 8 etc so possibly the factory ones are a bit 'odd-ball or special' in size.

It wasn't hard w/a small set of curved tin snips to make the 6.5's fit perfect - what a difference new high quality components made to the sound!

I had some pioneer 16cm speakers lying around that fitted perfectly, just needed to drill a few holes to mount them

Get the best bass drivers (components or 2/3 way) 6/6.5 you can afford & throw a decent amp at them, dynomat the doors & screw them in solid, if you want to hear them at road speed with the top down. I also chucked a Fusion active 8" amp on the parcel tray behind my head & 2 pairs of Polk 4"s in the headrests. Still not enough, reworking the door mounts.
The MX5 - moar fun than a wank
