Lights on buzzer - 5min fit

Post by tomtikki » Tue Aug 21, 2012 10:54 am

Ok, so i left my sidelights on in my NA again!
Leave for work in the morning and its dim so chuck the lights on, by the time you get to work its daylight and flick the lights 'off' but don't notice the sidelights lights still on as you walk away!
Flat battery when all you want to do is get home... yeah awesome.

I found the easiest buzzer mod and did it this weekend, works great and im kicking myself for not fitting it sooner!!

Cost: $3 12v buzzer from Jaycar and ability to get your head under the dash!

Open the fuse box in the driverside footwell, pull the 15a Engine fuse and the 10a Tail fuse.

Strip 20mm from the ends of the buzzer wires.

Wrap the red wire around a prong of the 10a tail fuse and refit into box.
Wrap the black wire around a prong of the 15a engine fuse and refit..

Ok replacing the fuses can be a little fiddly then cable tie the buzzer in place and so you don't kick it and that's it!

Turn your lights on with the keys off/out of the ign and listen to that buzzer sing. -personaly i had to put some tape over the buzzer as it screamed like a dying seagull.

No more flat battery!

Great idea! If instead of putting one wire to the engine fuse, you put it to one side of the interior light bulb, then you should have a buzzer which works when the lights are on and the doors open instead. Some might prefer this option :)

Also, you can simply modify the circuit with a cap and resistor, to just give a quick burst of sound once, rather than being on the whole time.

Nice mod, I might whip together a dying seagull for my car in the holidays.

This definitely goes on my list of things to do after I was driving around the north island during the day and decided to use fog lights rather than having the giant popups. Parked up in Taupo and left the fog lights on :(
