Mazdaspeed LSD

Post by Donovan » Thu Jun 02, 2011 7:03 pm

I have got in my pile of spare parts that I bought when I thought I was going to stick a rotary into my MX5, a Mazdaspeed mechanical LSD.

I think I have finally talked my brother into buying a MX-5 as well, and he is looking 1993 1.8L, which I said if he gets that he can have my LSD.

So I just want to make sure that it will work in it, as far as I know the gearbox and Diff are the same between the 1.6 and 1.8 NA?

Wont fit unfortunately, 1.6 has a 6 inch ring gear, 1.8 has 7 inch, housing and everything are larger

Okey Dokey, it just so happens that I seem to have ended up with a spare diff, axles, drive shaft, gearbox, engine and the list goes on.

Hmm, maybe I should build a go kart instead and let my Brother fend for himself.

After all, he who dies with the most toys wins.

Just another stupid question, if it is a 93 with a 1.8L in it, does that mean chances are it has been re-powered, as my mate Wiki on the internet say the 1.8 wasn't introduced till 94?

Late 93 is when Japan introduced the 1800,Bearing in mind the 1600 still continued to be available right thru to 03

The Americans will try to tell you that no 1.8 NAs were produced in 1993 (I have a NZ new late 93 1.8), but this is because they have this weird practice of launching the next years 'model' half way through the previous year! As I have found when ordering parts from the US, rather than trying to educate them, I just tell them mine is a 94 and all is well...... :)

Well he bought it, and I have checked out the chassis number, and yup, it is a NA8C, so another one to the fold.
