Vehicle corner weight

Post by Donovan » Thu Dec 16, 2010 11:54 am

Does anyone know of a place up in AKL, or HAM if need be, that hires out car scales, or will weigh your car. I want to put mine on a set of scales before I start doing all the work to it, to see how much it puts on during the process and what corners, so I can figure out if/how I can try and balance it out.

So with that in mind, it needs to be a set of corner scales, not just like a weigh bridge.

A weighbridge should still be able to accurately weigh each wheel one at a time. When i used to service them we had to ensure each corner was tested with weights and adjusted accordingly. As long as you use the same bridge & the same corner before and after then there should be no issues. The hardest part may be finding one with clearance to the sides of the platform for the car.I would think that each wheel would have to be just on so as to not weigh part of the rest of the car each time.Otherwise somebody may know a better way! :D

Thanks 2low2c for letting me use the vehicle weights and for letting me pick you brains on other things.

For anyone else that wants to know what the weight and distribution is on a NZ NA6C, below are the details.

The car is a NZ new 1990, with no aircon, electrics or power steer. Soft top roof had been removed, and at the time had a hard top on it. Only mods on it at the time of weighing was 17" wheels that had 205 R888 Toyo rubber on them, that weighed 5kg each more than the stock 14" rims with the 175 rubber. It had 1/4 tank of go juice in it at the time.

Total vehicle weight was 985kg, with distribution of 51.1% front and 48.9% rear.

LF - 240kg RF - 264kg
LR - 240kg RR - 241kg
