Brake pad anti rattle shims

Post by Ian » Tue Dec 15, 2009 3:56 pm

How do people lose these???
Don't ask me, but I know I need a pair (2 only) for my front pads - NA 1.8 (1.6 are a different size).
Can anybody assist?

Cheers

I got a pair of spring for pad from Ross (MX5Mart). Have you tried, him?

...otherwise it is a genuine set of brake pads  I would be interested in the price Mazda would charge!

I was trying to sort it out for Ian,Basically Mazda does not have a price for front brake pads listed!!,Another words if you go to Mazda they will supply a aftermarket set of pads,Which do not come with anti rattle springs.
Bit of a sod ,As like us at work(Mazline) we won't split them from the calipers as when you sell the 1800 caliper cradles for a conversion you need to sell them with the anti rattle springs.

Ian, Brownie

Ian, long time no hear.

I found the following part numbers which may be of interest.

Pad Hardware - Front
SKU: NAY5-33-29Z-MV
USD7.95

Pad Hardware - Rear
SKU: BCYF-26-49ZA-MV
USD3.95

These are for 94 onwards US Miata 1.8

They will probably have to come from Japan. Might be quicker to order from Rosenthal directly if you really want them.

Hi Euen....

Thanks for that...........but those kits contain mostly stuff I don't need, unfortunately. All I need is a pair of shims (the pad shaped metal shim which slips over the back of each pad....have all the springs clips etc etc) Many people don't bother to fit them if new pads are a bit tight to get the calipers to swing back over the discs, I suspect.
Cheers

Hi Ian

An alternative may be to try someone like RaceBrakes in Auckland. They may have a source for things like that, but then again I think that the response I got from them when I asked the question was to just leave them out.

Well Eunen, if you don't run them(?), I will be able to sleep easier!
If they only serve to decrease pad noise ...there seems little point when fitted up against Mintex 1166 and down changing to 4th at the end of the straight at Teretonga, and I am already calculating the weight saving/performance gains! :D

To put your mind at rest, I religiously replace them every time I have the brakes apart. I was fortunate that I still had a full complement of shims and clips when I got my brakes from Ross. However they are starting to show signs of wear on the caliper contact point.
