16" Wheels

Post by Donovan » Wed Feb 26, 2014 11:11 am

Does anyone know where I might be able to get some 16x9 rims?

Can find plenty of 16x8, but looking to run 255's on the back so would prefer 9" if I can get them.

Planning on running 225 on 8" in the front and 255 on 9" on the rear.

I guess it depends on what look you want and how many offsets you want to spend...
Which, won't be like.. +0 or anything.. more... +25 ?.. more?...

As anyone knows that has seen my car, looks aren't that important to me, more of the function.

So not overly heavy, the light the better, and not going to interfere with cooling for the brakes when on the track.

Not running flares at the moment, so guess I need to be around 36-38?

Don't enkei do the RFP1s in 16x9? (if so look at vivd racing if you don't mind shipping from the states)

Enkei only do 8" in a 16.

Vivd racing do have some 16x9, but they are $700USD a wheel, plus the freight.

Went to Arrow wheels in Kelston, and they can do them, but they are $1,000 a wheel.

Guess I am just going to be stuck with 16x8 and run 245's on the back instead of 255.

There's heaps of options on auctions.yahoo.jp for 4x100 in 16x9 at much better prices than that.

eg:
work meister sr1: http://page3.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/c423906532
watanabes: http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b152538154
xxr 531: http://page16.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u63629807

you can get these purchased & shipped to NZ via garage tetsuya, mlracing etc.

Yeah, quite simply for the size of the rubber that I can get, in a 15" can only get 225, unless I want to go with a 50 profile, then 235.

On 16" can get 245 on a 45 profile, or 255 on a 50 profile.

Like the look of the work meister sr1, typical that they are the most expensive. Have just bought a set of 16x8 that look very similar, so if I just got them for the rear end, wouldn't look that much different at a quick glance

Thought of going to 1 inch wider than you want and stretching something on? Should remove sidewall flex too

That would be nice, but I am having a hard enough job getting 16x9 let alone 16x10.

Seems my plans have been dashed, got a set of 16x8's in the meantime as I have a track day in April and my existing semi slicks are canvas on the 17's.

Ordered a set of 225's for the front and 245's on the back, and all was right in the world. Then get a call saying the 245's aren't in stock at the moment, and they won't have any till June!!!!

So at this stage have gone 225 front and rear and will have to wait till June. Have been poking around some other Tyre manufacture websites (mine are Toyo R888), Hoosier do a 245 semi slick (but the pic it looks more like a slick with a couple of grooves in it), as well as a 275/45 hmmm. Kumho have a 265/45 (would need a 9" wheel) but no 245.

Can't seem to find anyone else that does that size in a 16" everything else is 17" or bigger.

Me being the immense sucker for punishment that I am, talked to Platinum Wheels about the Hankook z214 and now the proud owner of a set of 225/50/16 for the front and 245/45/16 for the rear.

Problem is that I have already got me R888 225/45/16 and on the rims, so have to either try and sell them, or figure out what to do with them. Maybe find another set of rims and use them as wet weather track day tyres, since the Hankook are really more like a slick than a semi slick. Oh well it's only money, easy come, easy go. Hold on, let me re-phrase that, never come, easy go.

If you plan on holding on to the 225's I might take them off your hands as I'm planning on getting 16's for track tyres
