NB coil overs in my NA!

Post by Badcat » Sun Oct 07, 2012 2:53 pm

Hi all.
Just found today that my coil overs are for an NB. My car is an NA.
This could explain why when I got it the car was on its bump stops, while not incredibly low. I assue NB top hats would help me get more adjustability?
A tone have experience with this?
Are the front top hats different from the rears and where would I get them?

Please help!

it shouldnt make any difference between na and nb if you have coils.
What brand are they?
it sounds like they have just been wound down on the spring perch
unless you have Vmaxx or (god help you) racelands they should come with their own tophats
are the springs captive when the car is jacked up?

Hi sprsta,
They are bilsteins with blue anodised 3rd party top hats
When I bought the car it was really "crashy" and when chris from centreline got it up on the hoist it was sitting on the bump stops. He raised them a little to give me some suspension travel although the car wasn't stupidly low at all.
Just had the wheels off to day and saw they were marked for NB8.

I suppose I'll have to compare the top hats to std NA ones to see.
K

Springs captive.

Yes I think they are. The struts are similar to a good motorcycle strut with full thread adjustable spring height.
I suppose my question was is an NA strut shorter than an NB?

Are they new and have the right springs in them. The wrong spring length will make a difference on the amount of adjustability (well they do on mine)

They are used. Came in a car I bought and brought them over into a car recently. No idea re spring length. I guess I would have to disassemble them to check this?
