Post by warrior » Tue May 15, 2012 4:25 pm

Going to chage the gearbox and diff oil....what are people using out there? I am looking at the NULON gerabox oil that is sysithetic, has very good write ups and is a semi resonable price.....any ideas?

I think the go-to suggestion most people pop up with is Redline.

Yeah I have been told the same but at $33.00 a ltr it is too dear for my tastes. I need to do my mx5 and my mr2 so i,m looking at 5-6ltrs. I can do NULON oil for about $100.00 for the lot but redline will be $190.00. Can it be THAT much better? I know people will say a gearbox is worth a lot more but nearly $200.00 is too much to spend in my eyes

I'd imagine it's probably much of a muchness really, and that the amazing benefits most people claim from Redline are probably more to do with new oil than which specific brand of oil. Nulon seems to get a good enough rep so it should go fine. A few people seem to rate their gearbox treatment too.

I just put in Redline MT90 for the gearbox.[$69.00 from BNT] & then i have standard oil in the diff but i have added Redline LSD friction modifier to it [$16.00 BNT for 2 litres] as my diff oil is still new. This was my cheapest option for now.

I may yet put Redline in the diff but will see how it goes with the additive first.

I replaced mine with some Caltex stuff, but I think this is no longer on the market- Has improved the shift quality quite a bit :)

I've read somewhere LSD and Non-LSD require different diff oils.

Truth or nah? keen to replace my lot with redline. A mate uses it in his GT4 celica and really rates it

I've been using Castrol Syntrax in the race car since I built the new gearbox 5 years ago. At about $70 for 4L it seems a good option compared to the cost of Redline. Certainly no complaints about performance.
