Good luck Ian. If I wasn't racing this weekend it would be a good excuse to head South. Unfortunately it looks as if your weather might be a bit crappier than mine.

Have you tried Pukekohe Car Upholstery in Crosbie Rd?
I don't know what their work quality is like but I needed some material for my Formula Ford seat and they gave me a good size piece for free!!!!

A look at the 2K Cup website, www.2kcup.com (entry list and results from last season) would give you some idea of what is out there and what goes the fastest.
By definition they must be cheap cars.

Check out ShoresNZ Fabrications Ltd (Tim Ackers) at Westgate.
We just got a MSNZ spec half cage for the Levin for $897 inc GST.
This includes all the necessary paperwork for MSNZ homologation.
A full cage, including side intrusion bars, dash bar etc, is around $1800 - $2000.

Have you tried BNT or Race Brakes? They both stock DBA rotors and the DBA catalogue has the 275mm rotor, stock number DBA546. The unit cost will certainly be more than USD32, but freight costs from the US will more than double this. I just paid USD85 for freight for two rotors from the US, and that ...

Sorry to have to admit this, but it's not an MX5. While there are several MX5s in the series, they are not competitive. 87kW from 1600cc doesn't cut it against our Levin's 117kW from 1600cc with only 50kg more weight.

Car Set-Up and Track day Driving

My son and I are setting up a car for the 2K Cup series and are using Bridgestone Potenza RE002 tyres. I contacted Bridgestone to see if they could recommend an optimum hot tyre pressure. They couldn't, but gave me a link to a site which had info on car set-up. http://www.turnfast.com/technical Ther...

Traction Control?

Looking under the back of our new NB2.5 last night, I noticed sensors on each of the axles. They look like sensors for traction control, but I didn't think TC came in until the NC. Can anyone confirm/deny?

At the last Club Committee meeting we had a briefing from Glen from Mazda NZ on the new car. He'd just come back from Japan.
Apparently it will be smaller than the NC, more the size of the NA, and quite a lot lighter. Lots of light weight components. They hadn't decided on the engine yet.

Para Rubber do a foam tube (bit like noodle material but black).
Comes with different ID hole - 20, 25, 32mm - but with same wall thickness 15mm.
The biggest one won't fit all the way round a roll bar tube, but is much less bulky than the proprietary roll bar padding and much cheaper.

Snapfrozen. You're dead right in saying that if you had 2L of oil in a catch tank, you've got a problem. But that's the whole idea of the catch tank, to catch as much oil as possible if the engine lets go, eg. blown piston, and stop it all being deposited on the track.

The current Motorsport Manual says "engines up 2000cc (uncorrected) shall have a tank of at least 1L" and "engines over 2000cc (uncorrected) shall have a tank of at least 2L". When my car was first scrutineered way back in 2004 they specifically asked about the tank size (that it was =/>2L), and I w...

For race use I had to have a 2L catch tank with a 1.6L turboed engine, but I never changed from the stock PCV and in 8 years of racing never collected more than fumes in the tank.

I used some stuff from Para Rubber on my car when it was both road legal and track only. It's only 12.5mm thick, and doesn't wrap fully round the bar, as you can see in the photo, but doesn't take up too much space either. I'm not sure whether the LVVTA rules specified >15mm thick when I got my cert...

The black thing in the engine compartment by the inlet manifold is the evaporative canister. The diagnostic plug is on the passenger side front shock tower (small black rectangular box with flip up lid)

If the fuel level did get down in the tank it could have picked up some dirt and blocked the filter.

Got it!!!
The fault code was P0107, which for most cars is "Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Low Input". However, for the MX5 it's a fault in the EGR boost sensor.

It was for the Lola, a 255mm dia from Racetech. For the MX5 I found that 330mm was pretty good (had an OMP that I sold to Harlan). Merlin have a 330mm from Racetech at £121.50 excluding shipping but there isn't a picture yet so I'm not sure whether the centre is large enough to suit the MX5 boss ( i...
