Radar Detectors

Basically, they are a waste of good money. They will detect most radar based speed guns, such as the Hawk, but Laser is virtually undetectable until it has hit you, and then it is far too late. The Hawk is now used in standby mode most of the time, so emits no radiation until the operator decides to...

Seat Cleaning

I have just been having a bit of a bonding session, trying to get the last of the panelbeaters shop dust out of the old girl. Being a convertible and having sat without a top, the inside was pretty filthy. I have got most of it off, but the seats will, I think, require shampooing to get them back to...

PURLEE'S BACK!!!!

Hi Folks, After a month and two days Purlee is back on the road! I have to say that, if you are going to have a bingle, that was not a bad way to come out of it, she looks perfect, new bonnet, new right wing, new hood and a fantastic paint job. I know I have said this before, but honestly, the guys ...

Roof Stitching

Hi all, PURLEE should be back on the road by the weekend, I have been very jealous seeing all of the MX5s going past in the last four weeks. She now has a new roof, which was obtained from Mazda (a genuine Robbins) for $750 inc GST on special and required fitting. I think the experience we had in ha...

Hi Vic, Welcome to the list and the club. I can't recommend anyone by name in the Auckland area, but when I bought my BMW from Jerry Clayton BMW on the North Shore, a couple of years ago, it needed a little attention to the driver's seat as part of the deal. Whoever they got to do it made a fantasti...

That is really cool, it is in such excessively bad taste that you almost
have to have a set, and preferably on the most inappropriate vehicle
possible, something like an Aston Martin Rapide or a Bentley GT!

For God's sake don't show them to my wife!

"The earthling point" Chris? Sounds a bit alien to me!

But you are right, your suggestion of a poor earth is certainly not "off the
planet"

Actually, it's burning about 1.5 times the fuel of a 747, a 747 burns almost
exactly an imperial gallon a second at mid weight cruise

Hi Chris, To put that in perspective, I once saw two Royal Navy Sea Harrier Fighters demonstrate at KeriKeri. One was stationary about mid-point of the runway, but running at full power, ( you don't know what noise is until you have heard that close up) whilst the other approached from behind at 350...

No Thermostat? Agreements and Disagreements

It seems there are as many opinions as mechanics. I noticed when driving my BMW down the far side of the Kaimais, that it would start to cool down and be very cold at the bottom, which all suggested a stuck thermostat to me. Taking this up with Team McMillan I was told that, due to the fuel manageme...

Well, for the next three years that's Volkswagen's problem, although I suppose that I should now emigrate to "Der Fatherland". Paintless dent removal

Hi John, We had a couple of dents taken out of the side panels when we first got the car. The guy drilled a small hole in the rear of the door jamb, inserted a specially bent rod and "bob's your uncle"! Two minutes and no dents. The hole was then plugged by a rubber grommet and, to match it, he put ...

All Care Upholstery - was Re: Al's Upholstery (Auckland)

Karl, I have had to replace the roof on Purlee as a result of the accident, the panel beater tells me that Mazda have the plastic window hoods on special at about $750 at the moment (I was trying to persuade the insurance company to come up with a glass windowed one, They were $1250 and I did not fe...

I actually got hold of them on Friday after the article appeared, but to be
honest, I did not really know any of this myself until the Police told me.

And of course, as far as the Herald is concerned, there is nothing older
than yesterday's news!

It is quite amazing what your brain does not register in the heat of the moment and how much one's initial impressions can be wrong! Frankly, just after the impact, I would have sworn on a stack of Bibles that I was following the lady in the left lane and ran into her because she braked very heavily...
