When you says the previous owner deleted the A/C, how much did they take out? There should be a big black box behind the passenger's glove compartment. This is the A/C evaporator. If they removed or modified this, the air from the blower might not be getting to the heater unit.

Re: 15x8, 0 Offset D-Windows
NA''s are very sensitive to wheel/tyre weight, as you are aware.
This is particularly so if the shocks haven't been replaced recently.
I don't know how much a 15x8 D window weighs, but it it's anything more than about 7kg, I'd be very cautious about using them. The NA was designed for a 4.5kg wheel

I can't speak for the ebay roof you are looking at but those from quality suppliers such as Robbins, http://www.robbinsautotopco.com/mazda.php will fit both NA and NB models.

Had one in my 240bhp race car. It performed fine, but being lightweight construction (compared to Koyo or Mishimoto) I'm not sure about its durability on the road long term.

Re: New Tyres for fast road
Hi Gary. I would not recommend semi-slicks for road use. They tend to be very noisy (ask my wife when I put my Toyo R888s on her MX5 when I was getting new tyres for her) and they follow every ridge in the road, making steering a real chore. Bridgestone RE003s are very good on the MX5. They are quit...

It's OK to take the dash bulb out. Won't cause any problems.

Re: Dash warning light.
It's the catalyst overheat light. Check under the car and see if you still have the catalyst. The JDM cars have a sensor to detect if the catalyst is getting too hot. Most catalysts were removed years ago, and when you unplug the sensor, the light should go out. If you still have the cat with the se...

Welcome to the world of the MX5. If you are interested in the social side of MX5 ownership you might want to check out the MX5 Club of NZ Inc, https://www.mx5carclub.co.nz/ A few suggestions about your cons list: Yes, the CAS O ring is the most likely source of oil leakage if it's in that area. Re: NB 5spd vs 6spd
There is no difference in the engine between the normal NB (5 speed) and the RS (6 speed) so the different red line is probably related more to Mazda's expectations of the type of driver than for any technical reason. You might want to look at the engine revs v road speed relationship before decidin...

Re: LSD ratio.
Your NB RS will (unless a previous owner has changed it) have the 3.9:1 diff ratio. The only other higher ratio available is the 3.6:1 but these are almost impossible to get in NZ. You would probably have to import one.

Re: Replacement Plastic Rear Window
If the rest of the top is in good condition it would be best check with an automotive upholsterer to see how much replacing the window would cost. It is a straight forward job for any good upholsterer. A good quality new one from overseas, eg Robbins, would cost at least NZ$500 landed and fitting it...

Re: Soft no had leaks on day, next day water was pouring in
If both seats were wet it sounds as if the windows were not up fully, particularly as there wasn't a problem during the storm. The windows should sit tight against the rubber seals on the soft top and overlap the bottom edge of the seal so water can't get in. While it's probably not a contributing f...

Re: A bit more acceleration.
The NC has the usual range of go-faster goodies available for it. At the cheaper end there are aftermarket exhaust systems and cold air intakes. For bigger bucks, and bigger power gains, there are both turbocharger and superchargers kits. Unfortunately almost all of these parts have to be imported. ...

Re: Turbo Upgrade Kit For NB RS?
I doubt whether you will get an off-the -shelf kit to give that sort of power. All the kits that I know of from the likes of Flyin Miata and others, will provide up to around 250 bhp, primarily because you will need to upgrade engine components such as pistons and rod to go above this power. It can ...
