20 years of the MX5

OK on that. Was wondering what was happening as our local organisers hadn't heard anything either. Will look forward to meeting many of you at the Nelson event at Labour weekend. 20 years of the MX5

Just wondering if anything has been heard from Mazda or anyone else for that matter about the proposed tour and events to commemorate 20 years of the MX5?
All I have seen is the proposal and dates in the last issue of Top Down.
Anyone know what might be happening?

Horns

Repco have some FIAMM AM80s. They are packaged as a pair with different frequencies. These don't sound too bad and can be wired directly to the original wiring. Current consumption is near enough the same as the OEM horns so no re-wiring required. Much louder than the OEM one on my NC. The hard part...

"Slime" compressors for flats

The AA service is 24 hours a day. Also it's for the member, not the car so no matter what car you are in, even if you are a passenger, then you are covered. I've had one puncture this year so far. As is normal for me though it was in the 4WD and off road. My worst year I got 13 in 12 months! Not one...

Should have added that these tests were done using a 13.6 volt 20 amp
regulated bench supply, not that it would make any difference.

"Slime" compressors for flats

An easy option might be to join the AA! Just did some current measurements on a couple of small 12 volt compressors. First a $12.99 one from The Warehouse. At no load the current is 4.3 amps. At maximum load I can manage with my thumb on the outlet hose, the current was 7 amps. On the NC Mazda unit,...

"Slime" compressors for flats

The NC comes with what Mazda call an IMS (Instant Mobility System). It's a can of goo plus a compressor. I used the compressor to pump up my Terrano's tyre that went half flat overnight. Worked well although a bit slow on such a large tyre! The instructions say to let all the air out of the tyre. sq...

My NB had a Uniden alarm in it (still does I assume) and there were no
problems with it. Don't know about false triggereing with the roof up
though. Who has their roof up?

My previous NB and my present NC have the microwave option fitted. Works well. Definitely scares the neighbor's cat when it jumps in the car with the roof down! The only problem I have had is if it's set a bit too sensitive, then it will trigger the alarm when parked under a tree on a windy day. red...

Replacement Hat in CHCH

About 18 months ago I bought a basic roof with non-zipped plastic window from him to replace the roof on my NA. I fitted it myself. It was not too difficult to do but took me all day as I had no experience with this sort of job. The result was a good looking roof with a nice clear back window you co...

luggage rack?

The MaXi5ac is available from an advertiser in Top Down magazine. Don't have one here at present to give you more information. I just sold mine though to a local member as I now have an NC. I don't know of a kit to relocate the spare but here's some instructions to do it yourself: <http://www.mx5clu...

If your car is an NA, and you haven't done it already, mount the spare under the boot. Almost doubles the useable boot space. Get a MaXi5ac which also increases the luggage capacity of an NA or NB. Well worth buying. Works with the roof up or down. Use soft bags to maximise the space available. Have...

NA barke upgrade,Does your space saver fit?

Mine's a New Zealand new one without run flat tyres. The NC has not been designed to carry a spare wheel. I am happy to take my cars on all sorts of roads but they stay on public roads. My Nissan Terrano is for off road use. Got a puncture in that last Friday too but I was off road at the time. Quit...

NA barke upgrade,Does your space saver fit?

Do you really need that spare wheel anyway? I don't remember the last time I had a flat tyre when on normal roads and the NC (as with many cars now) doesn't have a spare at all. In the last few years I've been let down by other failures though. For example, I had a radiator top tank split in my NA a...

I paid $150.00 fitted and balanced at Firestone a few months ago for
Bridgestone G3s. I've been happy with them for some years now for on the
road driving on my NA then NB.

NC Bose MEDIA button?

Thanks for the reply, Gordon. I've ordered (from MX5parts in the UK) the Audiolink unit so I can use a USB drive for MP3 playback. Decided that was the easiest way for me to get a lot of music without taking up much room. Still can use the CD stacker if required. Will report on the success (or not) ...

NC Bose MEDIA button?

I've read through the manual of my NZ new 2006 NC with the Bose audio system trying to find what the MEDIA button does. Can't find an explanation anywhere. The 6 cd in dash stacker is not MP3 capable unfortunately.

Replacing Bose head unit

The Bose speakers are very low impedance....about 0.5 ohms! The amplifier is designed for this load and has equalisation built in to 'enhance' the frequency response of the special speakers. The amplifier is a balanced input (I believe) which can be fed from a standard head unit as long as you can b...

I forgot that the NA1.6 auto motor possibly does have a lower redline as they are slightly different to the manual motor. Not sure what the diffrences are now but they are designed to give a bit more torque at lower rpm to help compensate for the losses in the auto transmission. Don't know about the...

A few queries, any help appreciated.

There's no South Island Owners Club as far as I know. There is a very active
club in Christchurch as well as clubs in many other areas such as
Marlborough, Nelson, Otago, Southland.
Where are you?

Grant in Blenheim.
