NC Head unit options
I bought one of these <http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/audiolink-player-mazda-modularbose-mk2253-p-971.html> for my 2006 NC with the Bose system. My Bose does not have MP3 capability and this device works well, being limited by the sound quality of the Bose. Just plugs into the back of the radio where an ...

Got the MX5 itch again..time to scratch it?
I've had an NA, NB and now an NC, all auto for medical reasons as well. I can drive a manual and would prefer that but with the auto I can always drive it even when the arthritis plays up! The 1600 NA was the slowest but once moving and on a winding road, it's still a lot of fun. The 1800 NB was fas...

re002 v re001
I put a set of RE001s on my NC a while ago. Replaced the original Michelins. I can't compare the grip as I don't drive fast enough to get near the limits but what I did notice was a large reduction in road noise compared to the OEM Michelins. Did two return trips from Blenheim to Nelson yesterday in...

The $400.00 limit has been there for a long time. I have imported a number of electronic items over the years. I have always had to pay if the item was shipped by UPS or similar courier company. They appear to do their own customs collections and automatically charge on everything. If the item comes...

TOYO T1R BEING DISCONTINUED!
I just replaced the OEM Michelins on my 2006 NC with RE001s. I'm not a particularly fast driver but do enjoy the windy hills around here. I can't comment on the grip in the wet as I haven't driven in the wet with them but the dry performance is much better than I probably will require! What is immed...

best price for MX 5 on trademe ever?
If you must have an auto, you can still have a lot of fun driving it. I have had an NA, NB and now an NC, all autos. Each one has been better than the previous one. The NB can be held in any gear you want and this means you can enjoy the response on a winding road by keeping the revs up. Agreed not ...

new tyres on the NC
The Michelins on my NC are near replacement time too. Interesting comments on the Toyos. My speedo is spot on according to my GPS so would like to stay with the OEM size. What I would like though is a reduction in road noise. How do the Toyos compare for noise? Anyone else replaced their tyres and w...

New Head Unit for NB required
My 1998 NB with the Bose system fitted had 8" speakers in the doors. These were the horrible low impedance Bose speakers and I replaced them with 8" bass units from Supercheap. These along with the Bose tweeters sounded good with the JVC single DIN unit I fitted. I added attenuators to the tweeters ...

Yes it should be lit. I used to have a '92 1.6NA Vspec auto.

CD unit affected by heat?
I'm a National listener as well. Unfortunately the Bose system in my NZ new 2006 NC is rubbish on AM which I have to use as the FM coverage here is poor. Sensitivity is ok but AM audio quality is limited by poor radio design. On my previous NB which had a single DIN Bose system, I replaced the speak...

With a band expander you will not get the full tuning range of 88 - 108MHz as the Japanese radio range is not as wide. The Belkin probably works at one end of the FM band that you can't tune to because of the restricted tuning range. Install a NZ new radio with all the capabilities you need for much...

The NZ new NC comes with a jack. I assume all do.

I use an email client for the messages. I prefer this to using a browser as I can't be bothered going through the various forum threads as it takes me a lot longer to do so. The messages are forwarded as soon as they are posted. My email checks for new messages every 10 minutes. If I want to go thro...

NC Original Bose head unit
If it was me I would ditch the original unit and go for a double DIN unit to replace it. Or maybe a single DIN plus a storage cubby. This way you will have a unit with up to date features such as MP3 playback etc. Also the radio will cover the correct FM frequencies that the Mitsubishi won't. Even w...

Should have added I replaced the Bose radio and bypassed the Bose amplifier.
I installed a JVC mp3 capable unit. Results were excellent and far better
than the Bose original.
The car was an import 1998 V-spec.

NB Door speakers
I replaced my Bose door speakers when I removed the Bose system in my NB. It was awful! There is a lot of room in the doors. I used 8" subwoofers that Supercheap had at the time. They were easy to fit as the hole spacing matched and although quite deep, there was still plenty of clearance. I still u...

After seeing varous reviews and reading about the Nology leads, I would go and borrow a set of ordinary leads from another car and try those. I put them in the same catagory as Monster HDMI cables at $400.00 each when the $20.00 ones are just as good! My NA1600 had trhose symptoms not long after I b...

My NA and NB cars were both fast by about 5%. The NC I now have is very accurate throughout it's range. The error at 100km/h is less than 1km/h. All with standard factory wheels and tyres. My previous 4wd (Isuzu Bighorn and Nissan Terrano) were also just over 5% fast while my present Kia Sorento ind...

50 Ugly Cars / 50 years (relax...)
The S Cargo was designed by people with a sense of humour. There must have been a French influence there when they named it! It was very successful with the target matket and still is here in NZ. It's different but I don't consider it ugly. Certainly not like a Ssangyong Stavic is. I was pleased to ...

If the hold button is off(out) then all 4 speeds can automatically be selected by the gearbox. The numbers by the selector refer to the gear that will be held when the hold button is pressed in. So with the selector beside the 3 marking, pressing the hold button will lock the gearbox in 3rd. Move th...

Yes. Switching it off is the only way to allow the gearbox to select 4th gear. Once you get to those winding hilly parts of the drive though, use it to hold the lower gears to get the engine revs up and not being annoyed by the gearbox deciding to change at the wrong time. You don't have the delay w...

auto hold button
If I remember correctly (I sold my NB 1800 auto 12 months ago when I bough an NC 6 speed auto) the hold button when in Drive, will select 3rd gear. It will hold that gear and not drop to a lower one. You can use the auto selector to then select 2 or 1. The 'box will stay in what is selected. With th...
